Perry Center Call for Papers

Call for Papers for Conference of Defense Ministers of the Americas.
The 16th edition of the Security and Defense Studies Review (SDSR), the flagship journal of the William J. Perry Center for Hemispheric Defense Studies, focuses on the upcoming Conference of Defense Ministers of the Americas (CDMA). The Conference, a bi-annual summit of the Ministers of
Defense from democratic Latin American and Caribbean nations, is the main coordinating body of the defense objectives and policies of the democracies of the Americas. The XI CDMA is scheduled to be held in Arequipa, Peru, in October 2014.

During the 10th Session of the CDMA, held in Punta del Este, Uruguay, in November 2012, OAS Secretary General Jose Miguel Insulza called for a study on the mission and functions of the components of the inter-American defense system. It was, as he stated it, a topic for study whose “time has come.”

The Perry Center welcomes submissions of manuscripts that explore, but are not limited to, the inter-American defense system and its components. Other thematic issues that may be considered for publication include military roles in:

1.Natural Disasters and Protection of the Environment
2.Peacekeeping Missions
3.Security and Defense Challenges in the Americas
